Captain Charles Reid

Master Mariner and maritime advisor with more than 35 years’ experience spanning vessel operations, port logistics, container shipping and maritime consultancy.

Charles has extensive operational and advisory experience across shipping, ports and maritime logistics. He spent 20 years with Safmarine in sea-going and shore-based roles, including container vessel loading and discharge, RoRo operations, container distribution and operational management.

He subsequently moved into maritime consultancy and business leadership, advising on port operations, marine assets and operational performance. His recent work has included time and motion studies and operational diagnostics supporting port improvement programmes in South Africa, Zanzibar and The Gambia, as well as advisory work on harbour infrastructure and maritime development.

Charles holds a Class 1 Deck Officer Certificate of Competency (Master Mariner) and a Bachelor of Commerce degree.
